Position Description
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is introducing an exciting new leadership position: Senior Manager, Digital Innovations within the Industry Partnerships & Commercialization (IP&C) office. This inaugural role will spearhead the commercialization of digital health technologies and foster impactful partnerships with industry, venture studios, development partners and investors. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, the Sr. Manager will be responsible for introducing policies and practices across the institution to foster the development and commercialization of our rapidly expanding digital innovation portfolio, which includes software, AI/ML tools, digital therapeutics, and health IT platforms. The Sr. Manager will develop relationships and collaborate closely with clinical, research, and SickKids Artificial Intelligence (SKAI) teams to derive value through licensing, company creation, co-development, and strategic collaborations.
Here’s what you’ll get to do
- Lead the development and execution of commercialization strategies for digital innovations, including traditional licensing, open-source hybrid models, startups, and SaaS offerings.
- Design and implement institutional policies, frameworks, and best practices to support digital innovation development and commercialization.
- Oversee the digital innovations portfolio, including opportunity scouting, market analysis, IP strategy, and commercialization readiness.
- Lead the evaluation, intellectual property (IP) protection, startup company creation and licensing of digital innovations developed at SickKids.
- Identify, negotiate, and manage corporate alliances with industry partners, startups, and investors.
- Support faculty in building collaborations with external organizations to drive adoption of institutional digital technologies.
- Cultivate relationships that lead to licensing opportunities, collaborative R&D, sponsored research, or co-development partnerships.
- Manage a growing portfolio of digital assets, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and market trends.
- Conduct competitive landscape assessments and develop go-to-market strategies for digital health technologies.
- Work closely with researchers, clinicians, legal, finance, and external stakeholders to drive innovation to market.
- Provide guidance to junior team members and contribute to the strategic direction of the IP&C office.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to cultivate and promote an entrepreneurial and commercialization-oriented culture.
- Represent SickKids IP&C at conferences, panels, and industry events to promote its digital innovation capabilities.
